Monday, December 17th

It's hard to believe this is the last week of classes before winter break! This trimester is moving right along. Before you know it, it will be spring :)

Sixth grade classes are taking the unit 1 test (mental emotional health)in class today. They will also have the first big folder check. The grades from these two items will be posted by the end of the week.

Seventh grade classes will have the second test on Thursday. They will also have a folder check Thursday. If any student is missing items in the folder, they should see me before school Tuesday or Thursday.

Eighth grade classes are taking the Nutrition test today. They will also have the first major folder check. We wrapped up the Pyramid Challenge project last week. All grades are posted online.

Mrs. Conley 12/7/07

It's hard to believe that we're only two weeks away from Winter Break! Time is flying!

7th grade will have their first test on Monday. Students have been working on short and long term goals and discussing how accomplishing goals can improve ones' self-esteem. The first folder check will also be Monday. Students need to make sure they are organized and ready to turn it in. The first folder check will be the first "major grade" in the gradebook for the trimester!

6th grade will continue working on the mental/emotional health unit. They are doing a fun activity in class today called "self-esteem boosters." Be sure to ask students all about it!

8th graders should be recording all of their meals they eat over the weekend. We will be continuing to work on the nutrition unit up until break. Next week we will be in the computer lab doing a project where students analyze their diets. Wonder how their nutrition habits will compare to the recommendations on health eating from the FDA?!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Stay warm!

2nd trimester off to a great start!

Second trimester is off to a great start! The new classes have been going on for a week now and everyone seems to be getting into the groove of things in their new classes. Parents, please remember that all students are required to maintain a daily "health folder." At anytime if you are interested in what we are doing in class, the health folder would be an excellent resource for your child to share with you!

Toy Drive

The toy drive was a HUGE success! We collected TONS of toys that will help children in need to have a happier holiday season! Way to go Lakeview students!

2nd Trimester

Today is the first day of 2nd trimester! It has been great getting to know all of my new students. I look forward to a fun couple of months with everyone. All students need to have their "health folder"- either a three ring binder or three clip folder- by Wednesday. It is important that students have these to stay organized and on top of things from the very beginning!

Also, parents should look for a parent letter coming home this week. Please sign and return them by Thursday.

Also, just a reminder: First trimester report cards come out on Tuesday!

11/2/07

This week was kind of crazy... I missed a few days due to my son being sick. All of my classes did an excellent job keeping up and being flexible! THANK YOU!!!

We will pick up with the body systems in sixth grade next week. Students should be making sure to stay organized with the MANY handouts they are being given.

The seventh graders will be taking their Drug and Alcohol Unit test on Monday. Students all have a study guide and should be able to fully prepare for the test. There will also be a folder check on Monday for seventh grade.

The eighth grade classes will be wrapping up the reproudctive systems unit. They will be given a study guide to work on in class and will have a test and folder check by the end of the week.

All students need to keep in mind that the end of the trimester is quickly approaching. All missing assignments need to get turned in ASAP!

LIFESKILLS

Next week we are lucky to have the Township of Downers Grove presenting the Lifeskills program. The Lifeskills program is taught at all of the surrounding junior highs. It is a GREAT opportunity for students to learn skills for use in their every day lives.

The sixth grade program focuses on bullying. Students will learn what to do in situations where they are victims of bullying. They will also learn how to help friends and how to make sure they are not being bullies themselves.

The seventh grade program focuses on drug education. The presentation goes along wonderfully with the Lakeview drug education curriculum.

The eighth grade program focuses on stress management and goal setting. Students will learn ways to relieve stress and how to prevent it from happening. They will also practice goal setting with an emphasis on preparing for high school.

The students should have a wonderful week! Please ask your child about the program and what they are learning :)

8th Grade AWARE Program

The AWARE program will start for students in eighth grade starting on Monday. Students will receive this presentation during their health class. If a student is not in health class they will be “pulled out” of their fifth or eighth hour class during one of the trimesters for this four day presentation. There was a parent presentation to explain the AWARE program a couple of weeks ago. If you are a parent of an eighth grade student and were not able to attend this information meeting you can contact me for more information.

Welcome to Health!

Hello! My name is Andrea Conley and I am the health teacher at Lakeview. As an encore teacher, I have the privilege of working with many students for all three years that they attend Lakeview. This is my fifth year at the school and I am very excited about the upcoming year! I am a graduate of the health education program at Northern Illinois University and have a Master's degree in teaching and leadership from St. Xavier University. In addition, I am very involved in extra curricular programs at Lakeview.
I encourage discussions at home regarding the subject matter we are covering in class. If you have any questions or would like additional information at any time during the trimester, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me. You can contact me at aconley@ccsd66.org or 985-2700 x5013. I am looking forward to an excellent trimester!
