Mrs. Conley 4/18/08

Unfortunately, this was a difficult week for me. I missed a lot of school due to a sick child and meetings that I had to attend. I want to commend all of my students for being so cooperative and hardworking despite the fact that I was not here!

The sixth grade classes are wrapping up the Body Systems unit. They will be working on a unit study guide in class today. Monday there will be a review game and the unit test and folder check will be on Tuesday. Everyone needs to be fully prepared as this test is worth a large amount of points.

The seventh graders are continuing work on the tobacco unit. They will be using several different resources to learn about tobacco and nicotine and the short and long term effects they have on the body. The unit tests and folder checks from this week have been graded. The grades are posted online.

Eighth grade classes are continuing work in the "Game Plan" abstinence unit. The focus is on healthy decision making and how your choices can influence your future. Discussion at home on this topic is highly encouraged!

8th grade AWARE program

The AWARE program will start for students in eighth grade starting on Monday. Students will receive this presentation during their health class. If a student is not in health class they will be “pulled out” of their fifth or eighth hour class during one of the trimesters for this four day presentation. There was a parent presentation to explain the AWARE program in the fall. If you are a parent of an eighth grade student and were not able to attend this information meeting you can contact me for more information.

As usual, things are busy in health class this week!

The sixth grade classes completed a "STRESS BUSTERS" project using Microsoft Publisher this week. They came up with informational posters with suggestions on reducing stress. The students did an EXCELLENT job! We will be starting the body systems unit today. We will spend class time going over each body system. Students will learn major parts of each system and how they work together.

The seventh grade classes are continuing with a unit on friendship and peer pressure. We will be in the computer lab the rest of the week typing essays about best friends.

The eighth grade classes will be taking the nutrition unit test in class today. They will also have their first folder check. They will be watching the movie "Supersize me" the rest of the week. We will discuss the impact that eating habits have on members of our society.
