With pack the place, Valentine's day, teacher conferences and the winter dance, this has been a VERY busy week around Lakeview!

Health classes are keeping up with their hard work. There are only two and a half weeks left in the trimester. It is unbelievable how fast this school year is going by.

Sixth grade students will be wrapping up the body systems this week. Students have enjoyed the Brain Pop videos and have had some wonderful discussions on how the body functions. They will be getting a study guide Friday and the test will be next Tuesday. This will be the last test for the trimester.

Seventh grade students have continued learning information on what drugs to do the body. They have been working in groups on mini research projects that they are presenting to their classmates.

Eighth graders have continued work in the Gameplan books. The emphasis of what we are studying this week is sexually transmitted diseases. They are learning what the diseases are, how they are spread, how and if they are treated and how they can be avoided. Students have learned that abstinence is the only 100% effective way to avoid STD's.

2/6/08

This week, the sixth grade health classes are continuing on with the body systems. We will be studying each of the body systems and discussing the importance of each and how they work together. We will be using a variety of resources including www.brainpop.com to watch great clips for each of the systems.

The seventh grade classes are starting the Drug and Alcohol unit. This week we will be discussing how alcohol can affect the body over short and long term use.

The eighth grade classes are starting work in the "Game Plan" books. This is a great resource for abstinence education. The focus is on the importance of setting life long goals and how decisions can impact those goals. Parents are encouraged to look through the books and discuss these topics with their children.
