Lifeskills 1/28/08

This week we are lucky to have Mrs. Adelman from the Township of Downers Grove presenting the Lifeskills program. The Lifeskills program is taught at all of the surrounding junior highs. It is a GREAT opportunity for students to learn skills for use in their every day lives.

The sixth grade program focuses on bullying. Students will learn what to do in situations where they are victims of bullying. They will also learn how to help friends and how to make sure they are not being bullies themselves.

The seventh grade program focuses on drug education. The presentation goes along wonderfully with the Lakeview drug education curriculum.

The eighth grade program focuses on stress management and goal setting. Students will learn ways to relieve stress and how to prevent it from happening. They will also practice goal setting with an emphasis on preparing for high school.

The students should have a wonderful week! Please ask your child about the program and what they are learning :)

January 22, 2008

I hope everyone had a relaxing three day weekend in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Mid-term progress reports go out this week. It's amazing that the trimester is already half over. As a reminder, students may still turn in missing work for reduced credit. There are several students that would benefit from turning in work!

Sixth grade classes will be starting the body systems unit this week. We will get through an introduction of the systems and watch a GREAT Discovery Health video in class. Students will be getting their Chapter 5 tests back by the end of the week and all grades will be updated.

Seventh graders will be wrapping up the Tobacco unit. There will be a folder check and unit test on Friday. Students will receive a study guide in class and have all the materials to be fully prepared!

Eighth grade classes will be wrapping up the Reproductive Systems unit. There will be a unit test and folder check Friday. Students will have a class period to review and work on the study guide. They should study to be fully prepared!

Health 1/14/08 - 1/18/08

As usual, this will be a very busy week for all health classes!

The sixth graders will be wrapping up the personal health unit. They will be getting a study guide on Wednesday and should be fully prepared for the test and folder check on Friday.

The seventh graders will begin working on the tobacco unit. This is very appropriate given the passing of the smoking ban in Illinois. We will be discussing how smoking affects the body over short and long term uses. We will also be talking about how smoking can affect others.

The eighth grade classes will be continuing on with the sexuality unit. We will be covering the reproductive systems as well as reproduction and childbirth.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful, relaxing break. Hopefully all students are ready to come back to work!

This week, the 8th grade students will be participating in the AWARE program. There was an informative parent night in the fall regarding the program. If any parent missed the meeting and would like more information, you can feel free to contact me! I would be happy to send program information home.
